Fannie Lou Hamer Legacy Celebration Recap

FLH Celebration - October 10, 2019

The 9th Annual Fannie Lou Hamer Legacy Celebration was held on October 10, 2019, and was by all accounts a resounding success.  The festive event was held at the Educational Cultural Complex in Southeastern San Diego and paid tribute to the life, legacy and lessons of this uncompromising human rights leader and food justice pioneer.

The attendees were treated to a spread of delicious, locally sourced cuisine, guest speakers, creative cultural performers, music, and a touching tribute to Fannie Lou Hamer.  The evening was capped off by an awards ceremony for Project New Village’s “Food Equity Awards”, given to those in the community who exemplify the food justice movement in Southeastern San Diego.

This year’s Food Equity Award awardees are Kim Phillips-Pea, Kwaku Abdallah, David and Maria Muhammad, Ruth MacDonald, and Ryan Wauson.  Project New Village would like to give a heart-felt “Thank You” for your support and dedication to our cause!
