Mt. Hope Community Garden
The Mount Hope Community Garden celebrated its groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 28th, 2011. This is the first community garden located in Southeastern San Diego, and it brings a welcome opportunity for local residents to grow their own food.
15 years ago, Project New Village approached the City of San Diego about leasing a vacant plot in the Mount Hope neighborhood where we wanted to start a community garden. Today, PNV now owns the land and the garden is one-third of an acre that people in the community use to grow food, herbs, and flowers.
Even bigger plans are in the works as predevelopment has begun – we are transforming this beloved space into a community food hub, The Village. In 2025 construction will begin, building a multi-use facility that will provide a fresh food market, commercial kitchen, food vendor stalls, community dining space, and a community garden.
Volunteer Opportunities in the Good Food District
The Good Food District aims to elevate and integrate urban agriculture as a key component of community revitalization. Join us in our efforts to grow good food in our neighborhoods.
