THE VILLAGE

An Innovative Community Food Hub in Southeastern San Diego!

Project New Village has undertaken the ambitious goal of creating a unique food hub that we call The Village  – a ground-up construction project in Mt. Hope that has been in the planning stages for more than four years.

The Village Community Food Hub will be a 100% electrical,  ADA-compliant building that contain a neighborhood grocery store offering fresh, locally-sourced produce along with other staple and perishable foods,  a fully-equipped commercial kitchen and cold and dry storage will support community-led food production, aggregation, and distribution, food stalls for entrepreneurs serving locally sourced healthier food options, and a community garden.

The second-floor will feature an urban agricultural innovation center with flexible classroom space and movable walls to facilitate hands-on instruction, which works synergistically to diversify and localize the project area’s food supply, engage the community, strengthen the local economy, further public health, and foster a greener community.

Please join us in bringing this exciting and innovative community project to life, and support a healthier, more equitable food system in Southeastern San Diego.
